5 small changes to your morning which will transform your entire day

So recently I’ve got into a bit of a ‘rut’. Starting a new job that takes out 2 hours of my day commuting on a budget train line (which decides for itself whether it wants to turn up or not). Four months in and its taking its toll. But a gals gotta do what a gals gotta do. So I have been on a bit of a mission to try and figure out how I can make myself happier and more positive from the get-go. So I thought I would share with my lovely readers how I have changed my days through these simple steps.

Research suggests that it takes 21 days to form a habit, so for the last 21 days I have attempted the below tried and tested ways to transform your day from the minute you wake up. And the best thing about it? They actually work. They really, really work.

People assume that waking up earlier will make them more miserable, I mean let’s be honest sleep is bae. But if you’re anything like me you hate rushing as it causes extra stress and starting the day like this is a recipe for disaster! Even if it’s 15 minutes earlier, take that time for your self, read your favourite book, sit on your door step and watch the world go by as you sip your morning tea, enjoy your breakfast rather than rushing. Take extra care with yourself and you’ll be surprised how much you can get done in 15 minutes if you are fully focused and get your mind right and prepared for the day ahead, whatever challenges you may face. Which brings me on to the next point…

This is extremely important, it is not airy-fairy spiritual rubbish. It’s proven to work and whether you wake up grumpy, stressed or unhappy this will help you redirect your focus and re-align your thoughts for the day. Read a motivational passage, create a gratitude journal, listen to happy music. Whatever it is, do something that makes you feel inspired, grateful, positive. Make a list of three things you are grateful for each day, even when you are at your lowest and may feel like you have nothing, I promise you do. Even if its as small as there being a roof over your head, fresh water to drink and health.

Give yourself a mental break. Again, if you’re a blogger or if you’re anything like me your phone is an extension of your arm. You are always on it. Especially if you use it for business and keeping in contact with friends. Great, that’s all good. But first thing in the morning STAY AWAY from the urge to check your emails, social media (etc etc etc). Use this time when you’re fresh in the AM to focus on you, not mind-numbingly checking what Kim K is wearing on the daily mail (you can do this later though obvs). Whatever it is, can wait. (At least until you have your brekkie!)

*put the phone down girl I see you!*

This is really important to start your day right. If you start eating rubbish from the get-go your body will continually crave it throughout the day. Start your day right! Eat something good for your mind and body; fruit and greek yoghurt, wholegrain bread, scrambled eggs and avocado, fresh oats. Whatever it is make a healthy choice, and be kind to your body! If you cram in sugary foods early on your body will feel sluggish quicker. Swap it with protein and healthy carbs and reduce cravings through out the day.

FACT OF THE DAY: You’ll never look like a VS model eating bacon sandwiches every morning *sigh* (obviously this breakfast rule IS EXEMPT on Saturdays and Sundays as we all know calories don’t count on the weekend… right?)

Okay so this is difficult, in fact probably the most difficult part of your routine but equally, the most rewarding. Yes, it’s hard to find motivation but I notice a substantial difference in my attitude, my focus and my motivation throughout the day if I start it off with a work out. Especially for your mental health, for me it’s like the equivalent of talking to a therapist for an hour. But better because your body will look HOT at the end of it. I get it people don’t have the time or energy to work out every day – neither do I. So I am trying my best to incorporate into my routine more realistic goals. Trying your best is what counts the most. I am attempting the tried and tested 7 minute HIIT work out on days I can’t quite drag myself to the gym – I’ll leave the link at the end of the post and let me know if you would like a post on how I have found the workout.

Monday: Rest (obvs still hung-over from the weekend)

Tuesday: Gym

Wednesday: Gym

Thursday: Gym

Friday: 7 minute HIIT

Sunday: Rest

Saturday: 7 minute HIIT

FUN FACT: According to the Forbes most successful and wealthiest list in the world all of those share a strong connection – they all wake up in the morning to work out. And if its good enough for them, it’s good enough for us gals!

So there we have it 5 small ways you can transform your day, it takes 21 days to form a habit and just a few steps to change your life for the good, because lets face it, who doesn’t need an extra bit of help in the mornings?

What’s your morning routine? Have you tried any of the above?

I loved these tips! I’ve been waking up earlier recently, but I am guilty of using that time to browse my phone haha. I’m learning little by little!

Thank you! Me too it really makes a difference!

I also make sure I remember to take vitamins every morning as I usually always forget which is another good tip! 🙂 x

Great tips. Although I don’t comment or work at the moment, I do have a toddler running circles round me, but I do manage to do most of the above to keep me sane. I love getting up quietly in a morning before him and exercising, I feel it really sets you for the day as you feel so good for doing it! 🙂 Plus, I roll out of bed and go.. before my body realises what I’m doing to it.lol

That’s so good you manage to fit exercise in and with a toddler! I completely agree if I exercise in the morning I kind of trick my body and mind into not really realising what’s happening! lol whereas if I wait all day I tend to not go! These small changes really have changed my days for me as I was getting so stressed with my long commute, whereas now I can do something for me before the 9-5 starts! Or in your case the little toddler running around! 🙂 x

Some really good tips here, I have a bad habit of checking my phone as soon as I wake up for emails and social media. I’m a early riser though and always give myself plenty of time to get ready so that’s one thing I’m doing right. Thanks for the link to the video too looks such a good work out 😀

Such a great post! There’s nothing like a workout to get you motivated for the day – I feel I need to do the phone one though, but why is Snapchat so appealing? aaahh

I make sure I have breakfast every single morning – I couldn’t function without it! I totally agree about thinking what you are grateful for every morning – it is such a great thing to do to start your day off to a good start. I quite often listen to/watch youtube videos in the morning while I get ready, especially ones that are funny or get me in a positive vibe 🙂

    these are great tips!
I definitely try and stay away from news that will bring my mood down first thing in the morning so putting the phone on aeroplane mode is a good idea.
I used to feel so much happier in myself when I was working out more regularly – I need to get back on it! 21 days to form a habit you say? Bring it on!

I loved this post! Two things I need to work on is eating a healthy breakfast and exercising. I tend to want to sleep in and then I skip breakfast which is not good. I also need to partake in at least some light exercise so I can get back into shape a little haha❤

These are some fantastic tips! I really wish I could get up and workout first thing in the morning. I’m thinking of giving Yoga a try, as for breakfast, I’m not really eating breakfast at the moment, but I think I should because I’m a miserable cow when I’m hungry. Perhaps I need to take this tips and us them myself.
