“Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
    Steve Jobs

It was a cold Monday morning at work, you know the usual, drag your still hung-over ass out of bed, scrape your hair into a messy bun, and head out into the big, bad world. 15 clothing layers, 4 traffic jams and an espresso coffee later you are back to the familiar world of work. I looked out of the bleak window, and again at my computer screen and something clicked. I had to get out of there.

Why the hell did I quit?

I am an adventurous person, wild at heart. I have done some really mental and fun (mostly stupid) things in my twenty- something- years. But when it comes to my education and career I am about as straight laced as it comes. Straight A grade student with a scholarship at a red brick university I played by the book, literally, and if I wasn’t drunk in a bar or a suspicious looking house party I was in the library or working on my dream to work in advertising and marketing. Long story short, it paid off, I got a very highly paid job straight out of university for a multi-awarding winning international company (woooo hoooooo life is made! Right? Wrong). Something in me longed to go back to those wild days. My friends were all travelling and what once seemed less important when I was striving to become part of the rat race, became the most important thing to me, wanderlust.

    What happened next?

So basically I quit. I didn’t have much money saved and no back up plan as I, like most girls, spend the majority of money on absolute shit we don’t need but hope will make us look like JLO. Alas, I had enough money saved for a month or so of travelling. So right there, on that bleak Monday morning, I booked a flight to Hong Kong and then Thailand. And my life changed forever. I handed that notice in I had been dying to do for over 6 months but never had the guts to, and I walked out with my head held high. I travelled around the most beautiful islands, places I couldn’t believe were real – that a life where golden sands and happiness is a daily occurrence – this really can be your life. It doesn’t have to be you just getting by day to day, pay cheque to pay cheque, this is your life and you’ve really got to grab any chance you can to achieve your dreams.

“Don’t you find it odd,” she continued, “that when you’re a kid, everyone, all the world, encourages you to follow your dreams. But when you’re older, somehow they act offended if you even try.”

    How it changed my life

Quitting my job that I felt imprisoned to stay in, and following my dreams completely changed my life. Not just the amazing experience I had, but the fact that I could do it, the sense of freedom that came from taking charge of my own life and happiness. I didn’t have to be unhappy anymore.

Although people thought I was crazy quitting my job that I had worked so hard for, I wasn’t happy with my situation and I knew I had to get out of it. So many people live each day unhappy, yearning for more, hating their 9 – 5 job, the relationship they settled for and a general lack of love for life. But if you really, I mean really look around you, life is beautiful, people are beautiful, everything around you is. I honestly, truly believe that if you want something in life, you have to go above and beyond to achieve it. This may not be travelling for you, it may be wanting to be an artist when your parents forced you into law school, you may want to own your own café shop, or try your hand at acting school. Never give up on that dream whatever it is, or working towards it.

If like me, you have a feeling that something is missing, don’t ignore that nagging feeling in your heart, for it leads you to a happier life, no matter how scary it may seem at first. I will talk about my travels and how it changed my life in another post, but I just wanted to write this post as so many people questioned me and my sanity when I decided to quit my job and travel. So many people tell me everyday, ah I wish I could do that, I’m here to tell you that you can. You just have to believe that you, like me, are worthy of living a life you enjoy and deserve.

“You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”

Top 5 reasons why coconut oil is every girls beauty must have.

Top 5 reasons why coconut oil is every girls best friend.

Coconut oil has quickly became my beauty MUST have, like it really is the BOMB. It’s my favourite all-round skin care product, and best of all it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg (girls shop around!) – scroll below to see where I found the cheapest coconut oil.

A cleanser for this, a moisturiser for that, a balm for this, a beauty regime can be overwhelming, with a hefty price tag. That’s why coconut oil is a great all-rounder for a girl on a budget.
